Snap Inc. is planning to announce a gaming platform for developers in April. The app is better known for funny filters, message and story’s that disappear, but since 2018 it has been struggling after losing more than 3 million daily users. While other platforms like Instagram have seen success on its numbers, Snapchat is still looking turn things around.
The codename use internally for the gaming platform is “Project Cognac,” and it will feature games designed by developers to work exclusively on the platform.
According to Cheddar news, Snap Inc will unveil their new plans at its first-ever summit for content and developer partners in Los Angeles on April 4th. The rumors of snap working on a gaming platform started circulating back in 2017 after Tencent acquired 10% stocks from the company. Tencent is one of the largest gaming company in the world and worked as a developer for league of Legends and King of glory the top grossing game in the world.
It’s clear the Snap Inc. it’s clear that Snapchat Is trying to figure it out who is it real demographic. Just in the last year, they changed the design of the app, added an augmented reality shopping, and shows premiering on the app, no doubt the company is trying to figure it out who is it real demographic. However, other social media apps like Facebook and Instagram have done this job faster and with more success.
Just recently Facebook announced the development of a dedicated tab for games in the main navigation bar, which is not a surprise; the gaming industry represents a high spending audience. Snapchat could take advantage of this too by creating a new source of revenue for the app between purchases and advertises.
