Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the most successful open-world action RPGs for the PlayStation4 when it launched in 2017. While there has yet to be an official announcement from Sony, what has emerged is that Guerilla Games is already hard at work on the sequel. Voice actor Janina Gavankar, who was the voice of Tatai in “The Frozen Wilds” DLC let it slip at a Star Wars convention. More on that, over here.
One Post on Pastebin
Admittedly, it’s not much of a surprise that Guerrilla Games is working on a sequel. What is surprising is just how soon we can expect to see it. Please note that the source is a nameless European developer claiming to be working on a PlayStation 5 Launch title, who dumped a ton of stuff in a post on Pastebin. Needless to say, this is just one post and has no evidence to back it up at all. However, it does give the release year of 2021.
A Realistic Timeline?
This is perhaps a year or two earlier than expected, given that Horizon Zero Dawn spent about six years in development. No doubt sequels are slightly easier to make because a lot of things have already been figured out, but since the first one took six years, it makes that the second would take slightly less time.
For the Next Generation
The same Pastebin post, however, also highlights that it will be a PlayStation 5 game, which means that Guerilla is going to have to speed things up and learn a lot of new techs. This is something that they should be capable of doing with ease as they have not only moved into newer, fancier offices lately but also been hiring quite extensively on all fronts at the end of 2018.
This is Still a Rumor
However, remember to take all of this with a pinch of salt. There is every chance that the Pastebin post is fake and incorrect as it could possibly be valid. For the moment, however, I’ll say it’s a good thing that the sequel is in development, but my bet is on a 2022-23 release date.
