Battle Royale for the Genre Crown
Fortnite and Apex Legends have been having their own Battle Royale for dominance of the Genre for the past several months This week, Fortnite’s developer Epic Games has added a new respawn mechanics that may give Fornite a bit more staying power versus its rival Apex Legends.
Fortnite’s New Feature: – Respawn
In a video released on the 5th of April 2019, Fortnite announced that their latest feature would be the ability to respawn eliminated teammates and get them back into the fight. You can watch the video right here: –
How this works
Fortnite’s Reboot Van allows players to respawn eliminated teammates. All you have to do is grab the Reboot Card dropped when a teammate dies and take it to the Reboot Van. Teammates can be revived at the van which will have a cooldown before it can be used again. Based on the video, it is currently not clear if the respawn timer’s cooldown will kick in when one teammate or your entire team respawns. Either way, it is a game changer for Fornite Players. It’s now not so easy to keep the enemy out of the fight.
If it Feels, Looks and Sounds Familiar…
Somebody once said, “if you cannot innovate, learn to copy efficiently.” Epic Games seems to have done just that by copying Apex Legend’s Respawn Beacons. The only difference between the two systems is that Fortnite has a cooldown before it can be used again. This will go some way towards leveling the playing field between the two titans of Battle Royale. With one update, Fornite has taken away one of the differentiating features that set Apex Legends apart from other Battle Royale titles.
Fortnite Players can expect the Respawn Van to start zooming in to their matches with the v8.30 update currently scheduled for next week.
