Yesterday Sony Pictures Television and Production gave us a big surprise by announcing a partnership with Square Enix to developed a live-action adaptation for the online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV.
After Final Fantasy XIV was first launch, it almost became Square Enix major flop. Yet not giving up the Tittle was relaunch to become one of few MMORPGs still strong in the market. Six years after its relaunch the game is still collecting millions in profits.
After it was first launched for Final Fantasy 14th installment was heavily criticized by fans for its poor performance. Two years after it was released, Final Fantasy XIV was shut down with the promise of coming back. In 2013 Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was launched and indeed the problems that affect so much the first launch were fix. After the second launch, the game has been met with excitement for every major update.
The live-action TV series will tell, and original story set Eorzea, the same world as Final Fantasy XIV. The show is still in development stage, so there is not much information in regards to the focus of the show. However, according to a press release, the show will explore:
“The struggle between magic and technology in a quest to bring peace to a land in conflict.”
There is still no news about casting, and probably there won’t be for a long time. As we all know by now, Hollywood had some hit and miss before in regards to video Game adaptations. Yet, recent projects like Detective Pikachu has shown us that there is always hope.
