The New World has been the home of the Fifth Fleet for quite a while now. Hunters have come. The Elder Dragons have been slain. Zorah Magdaros was diverted. Xeno’jiva was slain. The Sapphire Star continues to shine. Monster Hunter World Iceborne is going to make the New World a lot bigger: –
Welcome to Hoarfrost Reach
Capcom brings back hunting in winter. This is a snow-filled winter monster land that sounds like an entire region and not just one small simple map. Described in one word as “huge.” There is a new single Hunter campaign/story, set after the events of Monster Hunter World. Hoarfrost Reach will open up as the story progresses and will be fully explorable by the middle of the new campaign.
According to Capcom, this wintery world is cold. Fluffy snow will sap stamina unless you can craft a Hot Drink, or soak in hot springs to warm up and reduce stamina drain. This is going to pose some rather interesting exploration and combat challenge. Get a heavy jacket.
The Upgraded Slinger
With Iceborne, Hunters will be able to use the slinger with any main weapon drawn. This is a huge quality of life improvement, and getting Screamer, Flash and Dung pods on target during hunts a lot easier.
The Clutch Claw
There is also the addition of the Clutch Claw, which is exactly what it sounds like: – You can now grapple on to a monster from range, and using the Clutch Claw will trigger a weapon combo. Hopefully, perfect execution of this combo will make it easier to mount said Monster.
Apparently, it is going to be possible to execute a few new moves to help Hunters bring down Monsters. One of those is called “Flinch Shot.” You can unleash several flash pods at once to blind, disorient and send the Monster careening in the opposite direction. Use it to slam Monsters into walls, preplaced traps or an ambush.
New Weapons, Armor, and Combos
Needless to say, this is Monster Hunter. Each of the existing weapon types will get new combos and there is also a new element. This will offer a new level of strategy and tactics for Hunters to sink their teeth in to. Bow users will also have several new coatings to choose from. Hunters will definitely be hunting a host of new monsters which means new weapons, and armor to craft. Here’s hoping that the weapons and armor crafting from the new monsters is on par with the Wyvern Ignition in terms of design and look – and hopefully has a warming charm built in, because baby it’s cold outside. Time to reassess your Hunter build.
New Rank, Monsters and A New Elder
Monster Hunter World had High Rank, Tempered and Arch Tempered Monsters. Iceborne will add the Master Rank difficulty. This will be a new tier above High Rank that will make the new and existing monsters even more ferocious than ever. There is also confirmation on new endemic life and the monsters in Hoarfrost Reach: –
He’s a big brute wyvern who is slated to show up early – probably by wrecking his way through a stand of trees and throwing said wood in your direction with his giant horns. Expect a move set based upon direct charging straight-at-you attacks. He’ll probably do the whole hurl-stuff-at-you-while-he charges too.
The first large monster in Iceborne, he’s the snow version of Jyuratodus. Expect the same sort of circling tactics and popping-out-of-snow attacks to spoil your day. Capcom suggests getting him to surface and out of the snow to shut this party down.
According to Capcom, Nargacuga is set to appear around the halfway point in the campaign. If the trailer is to be believed, Nargacuga will appear in the Ancient Forest which means there are going to be some big changes in the existing regions of the New World. With claims that he will be no pushover, we can expect this monster to try and kick Rathalos’s ass – repeatedly.
A New Elder Dragon, and another Elder thought to be a myth. Veklhana makes use of extensive ice attacks – that’s a given – but this is Monster Hunter. Expect a twist and a lot of sneaking tricks when this most epic of hunts begins.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne is scheduled to release on the September 26th, 2019 for Consoles and is expected to be available on PC near Christmas 2019. Now If we could get more information about that roar that sounds like a Tigrex…. oh wait…. Maybe we can: –
