Be Brave. Be Dauntless
Phoenix Labs has been working on Dauntless since before Monster Hunter was released. Indeed, the game has been publicly playable for some time. The closed alpha took place back in 2017. The developer of Dauntless has just announced that its free-to-play Monster Hunter-esque action-RPG will launch on May 21st, 2019 to all consoles and PC via the Epic Games Store.
The Fun of the Hunt
The fun of Dauntless is not just in the hunting of the behemoths, but in partying with pals to bring down these formidable monstrosities. The mechanics and progression will feel similar to those who have played any Monster Hunter game: – Kill the beast to acquire new materials to craft fancier weapons and equipment to take on bigger and badder beasts.
Simple is also fun. Fun is always good
Where Monster Hunter is complex and tactical with long-running fights, Dauntless focuses on having shorter fights, simpler combat of a shorter duration with fewer monsters to hunt at a time. The Fortnite-esque Battle Pass system known as the Hunt Pass will make sure that there is always something to do in the game too. The upcoming Season 5 apparently includes
Phoenix Labs has also confirmed that there will also be a new Mastery system, and rework of the campaign to improve questing, craft and more.
As with all free-to-play titles, Dauntless does have the traditional in-game store, but the focus is on cosmetics for weapons and armor, not on being able to pay to win. Be fair to Phoenix Labs, they have got bills to pay too.
