When it comes to Pokémon, most gamers have a story to share or a fond memory attached to the game. The franchise has been alive and thriving for so long that it has been part of many of the childhoods of gamers in their 20’s. Escaping the Pokémon phenomenon was almost impossible. You either got the game for your Game Boy or watched the anime. But, there’s no denying that Pokémon is still to date one of the best and most approachable RPGs out there. After all these years, it is almost a given that you develop favoritism for a particular Pokémon, and, most of the times, there’s a good story behind the reason of that fondness. What’s your favorite Pokémon, and why?
Ninetales – My favorite Pokémon
My story with my favorite Pokémon isn’t that exciting. Since I owned Pokémon Yellow, I have always loved Vulpix and Ninetales. The sprite back then, even with its limitations, was really impressive. Since those days, I really like the sleek design of Ninetails especially. It looked imponent, and its fire type and move set were genuinely appealing to me. I know Charizard is the go-to guy for many, but in my case, Ninetails was the GOAT.
I was not a sociable kid and thought of myself to be clumsy. Ninetales had some sort of poise and elegant demeanor that made it impressive for me. So much time has passed, and long gone are those awkward feeling days. But, even now that I am grown man and those insecurities and growing pains are far behind, I still found myself using the phrase “classy as a Ninetales” every now and then to describe something that amazes me. In addition, the Alolan form is dope!
Alakazam – My best friend’s favorite
My best friends from Brazil says his go-to Pokémon is Charizard. It truly matches his personality. Because what’s cooler than a flying dragon (that isn’t dragon type, mind the irony there) that shoots fire. But, deep down, he admits that as much as he loves Charizard, his favorite one is Alakazam.
His speed stats and psybeam were a killer combo in his roster. I am a fan of the psychic type, so I totally support his decision!
Mimikyu – Stan’s favorite
I got the idea to create this post from a guy that, albeit rarely exchanging some mentions on Twitter, has been a source of inspiration on many occasions. Stan is a Canadian content creator, and he did a lot of shiny hunting in YouTube back in the day. This guy is immensely down to earth and made some really inspirational videos sometimes. His love for Pokémon brought him success on YouTube and many followers, but one Pokémon truly changed his life.
He was hunting for a shiny Mimikyu, and it became an almost 8-hour stream. That really brought a lot of viewers in, myself included. That stream boosted his channel in ways he probably never expected. Thus, making his stream much bigger. He decided a right way to commemorate what was now his favorite Pokémon, was permanently inking a shiny Mimikyu in one of his arms as a tattoo. I´ll leave a video up here so you can check out his cool tattoo!
The Pokémon franchise has meant a lot for many gamers, and it truly brought a generation of gamers together. It was a perfect excuse to go visit a friend and bring along your link cable for a battle or trading. It helped many in times in which friends were scarce and help others overcome their shyness and bond with other fellow gamers. There are many stories out there on favorite Pokémons, and certainly, each has its own special meaning. Those stories always remind me why I love gaming so much.
So, what’s your fave one? What’s your story? Let us know in the comments below!
Dedicated to Stan and his shiny Mimikyu, thanks for the inspiration! Hope you’re as upbeat and positive as you’ve always been. May you have success in all your endeavors, my friend!
