Building an online community is one of the most rewarding things a creator can do on the internet. It is not an easy task, but it is truly rewarding to find those who share passions and dreams similar to yours. This challenge is what our creator of the week enjoys most of the process of becoming a streamer. For this week Community Spotlight, we give you Alex, an Aussie streamer that loves his international community.
Meet Alex a.k.a Alex1x
As usual, we ask our Community Spotlight honoree to describe herself or himself in own word, so you guys can get to know them and their passions and dreams.
When we asked Alex about himself, he stated the following:
I’m Alex, I stream over on the channel Alex1x but everyone just calls me Alex.
Like many other people, I started playing games at a very young age. I was lucky enough to have parents who bought a few consoles during my childhood. I grew up playing the classic Playstation falling in love with games like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. My mum showed me those games, they were her favourite too. My dad showed me a game called Driver and now that game has the most nostalgia for me, even with the hiccups the later games had I still played through all of them and loved them.
During my late high school years I started shifting towards PC gaming where I played games like Garry’s Mod with friends. Hiding as a bucket from your mates in Prop Hunt or conspiring against your best friend in TTT (Trouble in Terrorist Town) were daily occurrences after school for me. I had a PC made up of old parts that needed a screwdriver to boot up, but that didn’t bother me, as I was having a blast!
Work, gaming and a Yugoslavian gas mask!
After school finished and I started working full-time ( I am a Forklift Driver), I started losing interest in playing games and started watching people play on Twitch, I gained interest in streaming myself but at the time, Australia’s internet speeds were not up to par. Luckily for me, a couple years later internet infrastructure improved and I had decent enough internet to start my own channel. After the 0 viewer grind I started growing a community with the help of a few huge raids, I began feeling a passion for gaming again.
Whilst my skills in competitive games are nowhere close to the likes of streamers like Shroud, I like to provide semi-decent skills while focusing on having a laugh with my community. For example, I started a playthrough of a game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. whilst struggling to see and breathe through a genuine Yugoslavian gas mask.
I think the biggest thing I like about streaming and gaming now is, meeting new people and learning about what they like, how they play games and how they might view the world. my community isn’t just Australians either, we have people from all around the world tune in daily and that experience has broadened my knowledge of the world. That’s my favourite thing out of all this. I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to come home from a long day of loading trucks and jump in my chair and chat with all kinds of different people. It’s a privilege!
